Senior Associate, Workers’ Compensation Staff Counsel (Insurance)

Location: Tampa, Florida; hybrid schedule with 3 days in the office and 2 days from home

What you will do

• Manage all phases of moderately complex Florida workers’ compensation defense matters, including strategy, discovery, depositions, hearings, appeals, and post-hearing follow-through.
• Analyze legal and factual issues, conduct research, and develop effective defense strategies.
• Prepare and present witnesses and evidence at hearings and mediations.
• Communicate legal guidance and case updates to clients, Claims, claims professionals, opposing counsel, witnesses, and the OJCC.
• Partner with Claims on escalation points, settlement objectives, service strategies, and case resolutions.
• Maintain compliance with ethical, regulatory, professional-conduct, and corporate-governance requirements while managing workload efficiently.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Active Florida Bar license in good standing.
• At least 7 years of experience defending workers’ compensation claims, including significant first-chair hearing experience.
• Deep understanding of Florida workers’ compensation law and defense strategy.
• Strong written and oral advocacy, negotiation, courtroom presentation, analytical, strategic, and critical-thinking skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, LexisNexis, AI, workflow creation, and case-management systems; ability to travel locally and overnight up to 20%.
