Litigation Counsel (Insurance Defense)

Location: Hybrid, Phoenix, Arizona, United States

Salary: $112,000–$184,800 annual base salary, plus eligibility for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What you will do

• Handle a caseload of predominantly low-to-moderate complexity insurance defense matters from inception through trial, appeal, or negotiated resolution.
• Develop litigation strategies, try cases to verdict, negotiate resolutions, and provide case analysis and recommendations to insured clients and claim partners.
• Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and other legal documents.
• Attend court events, depositions, hearings, trials, and other appointments independently; travel as required by business needs.
• Build relationships with internal and external clients and business partners, and provide advice and training to Claim partners and clients.
• Use available technology, case management systems, and automation effectively.

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate or equivalent international legal degree from an accredited law school.
• At least 2 years of experience as a practicing attorney; 3+ years of insurance defense litigation experience is preferred for the ideal candidate.
• Active license in good standing to practice law in the state or states where representation is required.
• Regular experience handling hearings, trials, dispositive motion arguments, depositions, or other court proceedings, with the ability to travel to those meetings.
• Strong communication, persuasive legal writing, oral advocacy, legal research, negotiation, decision-making, and technology skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail, urgency, and responsiveness.
• Ability to handle cases independently from inception through trial or hearing and appeal.
• Collaborative, flexible, and agile approach with strong client service skills and willingness to take on evolving challenges.
• A valid driver's license is required depending on the location.
