TL;DR
Permit Lead (Real Estate Development): Managing end-to-end permitting and compliance coordination for multifamily construction projects with an accent on AHJ communication, regulatory interpretation, and approval tracking. Focus on coordinating design revisions and resubmittals, maintaining jurisdiction-specific requirements, and preventing permitting delays from affecting project schedules.

Location: Irvine Office; the role description also identifies the Design for Execution team in San Diego, CA. Onsite, Monday-Friday, with frequent travel to AHJ offices.

Annual base pay range: $120,000-$160,000 USD, plus potential bonus or incentive compensation.

What you will do

  • Own the end-to-end permitting process for assigned projects, including milestone tracking, submissions, approvals, and delay mitigation.
  • Coordinate with AHJ representatives, municipalities, design teams, and engineering teams to resolve questions and comments.
  • Interpret agency feedback and coordinate design revisions and permit resubmittals.
  • Develop workflows that improve the speed and accuracy of permit documentation and approvals.
  • Maintain permit files, tracking systems, licenses, approvals, and issuance-date records.
  • Coordinate requirements for inspections, Temporary Certificates of Occupancy, and Certificates of Occupancy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in architecture, engineering, or a related field.
  • 5-10 years of experience in permitting, zoning, planning, or regulatory coordination.
  • Experience leading permit strategies across multiple authorities and project types.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate daily with project stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, project management applications, permit tracking systems, Bluebeam, and jurisdictional online portals.
  • Ability to work a five-day onsite schedule and travel frequently to AHJ offices.
