Principal Engineer, Fuel Cell System Testing

Location: Albany, NY; headquarters in Slingerlands, NY. Full-time onsite role.

Salary: $114,000–$185,250 per year

What you will do

• Plan testing and validation strategies for fuel cell system evaluation and commercialization.
• Develop and execute test plans, protocols, design verification, and product validation activities.
• Perform parameter characterization, sensitivity testing, design of experiments, durability testing, and accelerated stress testing.
• Conduct shock, vibration, thermal cycling, freeze-thaw, cold-start, environmental, safety, and certification testing.
• Improve data analysis procedures, test systems, equipment, protocols, and automated operations; troubleshoot laboratory setups.
• Analyze failures using 8D, root cause analysis, statistical methods, and other advanced techniques; mentor team members and manage multiple projects.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field, preferably engineering.
• 10+ years of relevant experience in a technology manufacturing environment.
• Deep expertise in instrumentation hardware and diagnostics across thermal, fluidic, structural, and electrochemical systems.
• Hands-on laboratory and test-station experience using LabVIEW or similar software.
• Experience testing products for certification and compliance with SAE and ISO standards.
• Experience developing, testing, and commercializing fuel cells, flow batteries, or similar technically complex products, plus proficiency in MATLAB, VBA, Python, or similar tools.
