Senior HVAC Technician

Location: Newark, New Jersey, USA; full-time onsite facilities work

Salary: $43–$50 per hour

What you will do

• Inspect, maintain, diagnose, repair, and modify HVAC systems across the New Jersey school portfolio.
• Troubleshoot refrigerant-driven and water-driven heating and cooling equipment, including heat pumps, boilers, furnaces, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, and glycol systems.
• Manage minor HVAC projects and coordinate larger mechanical construction and repair projects with facilities staff, consultants, and vendors.
• Respond to HVAC emergencies, restore systems, and communicate clearly with stakeholders during incidents.
• Maintain preventive and corrective maintenance records through an automated work order system.
• Mentor junior staff and support Facilities Managers and General Maintenance Workers with projects and special assignments.

Requirements

• At least seven years of relevant HVAC experience, including four or more years as a head technician, or equivalent education and experience.
• Journeyman-level HVAC expertise and knowledge of the National Standard HVAC Code, National Standard Plumbing Code, building codes, OSHA, and life-safety requirements.
• Advanced knowledge of BMS systems and the ability to read construction drawings, as-built plans, specifications, schematics, and technical manuals.
• Experience repairing boilers, gas furnaces, heat pumps, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, compressors, dampers, valves, and other HVAC components.
• Current EPA card permitting refrigerant dispensing, plus a valid driver’s license and vehicle.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, communicate with staff and vendors, and work nights or weekends when necessary.

• New Jersey low-pressure black seal boiler, HVAC, or related certificate, training, or license.
