HVAC Service Technician (HVAC)

Location: Newark, New Jersey, USA; onsite work across the New Jersey facilities portfolio

Salary: USD 43–50 per hour

What you will do

• Inspect, maintain, repair, modify, and troubleshoot HVAC systems across school buildings.
• Diagnose system issues, evaluate solutions, make repair recommendations, and respond to emergencies.
• Service heating and cooling equipment, including boilers, furnaces, heat pumps, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, compressors, dampers, and economizers.
• Manage minor HVAC projects and support the planning, coordination, supervision, and quality control of larger vendor-led projects.
• Maintain work-order records and communicate clearly with facilities staff, school staff, vendors, and other stakeholders.
• Assist Facilities Managers and maintenance staff, respond to after-hours campus calls, and mentor junior personnel.

Requirements

• At least seven years of relevant HVAC experience, including four or more years as a head technician, or equivalent education and experience.
• Journeyman-level HVAC knowledge and ability to work in accordance with National Standard HVAC, plumbing, OSHA, and other applicable safety codes.
• Advanced knowledge of BMS operations; ability to read construction drawings, specifications, as-built plans, schematics, manuals, and related technical documents.
• Experience troubleshooting refrigerant-driven and water-driven heating and cooling systems, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, boilers, and gas furnaces.
• Current EPA card for dispensing refrigerants, valid driver’s license, and access to a vehicle.
• Availability for nights, weekends, emergency calls, physical work, outdoor conditions, heights, and lifting up to 100 pounds.

Nice to have

• New Jersey low-pressure black seal boiler, HVAC, or related certificates, training, or licenses.
• Experience in multi-family, school, or commercial buildings and familiarity with construction, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems.
