TL;DR
Field Service Engineer (Robotics): Providing onsite installation, maintenance, repair, recovery, and troubleshooting for robotic food-production systems with an accent on electromechanical systems, field escalations, and service documentation. Focus on diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and system-level issues, restoring equipment to operation, and building repeatable processes for internal and third-party service teams.

Location: Pittsburgh, PA, United States; onsite five days a week. Travel to customer and field sites is required, including short-notice deployment, maintenance, escalation, and recovery support.

Salary: $60,000–$80,000 per year, with potential equity awards and an annual performance-based bonus.

What you will do

  • Provide onsite support for prototypes, pilots, deployments, and scaled operations, including installation, maintenance, repair, recovery, and equipment removal.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and system-level issues using fabrication, soldering, cable repair, component replacement, and system checkout.
  • Partner with triage, engineering, software, operations, and product teams to resolve field escalations and restore systems to operation.
  • Create and maintain service procedures, installation instructions, maintenance manuals, repair sequences, and field checkout documentation.
  • Provide structured field feedback to improve system reliability, serviceability, and deployment quality.
  • Develop repeatable service processes for internal technicians, remote staff, and third-party service contractors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent field experience in mechanical engineering or a related field.
  • 2+ years of field engineering or maintenance experience.
  • Practical experience troubleshooting and repairing complex electromechanical systems.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, service procedures, and system documentation.
  • Strong hands-on skills with standard tools, basic fabrication, cable repair, component replacement, and system testing.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, document field issues, coordinate with remote teams, lift up to 60 pounds, and work on your feet for extended periods.

Nice to have

  • Hands-on manufacturing experience and/or electronics soldering experience.
  • Basic CAD experience, preferably with SolidWorks.
