TL;DR
Project Manager - Water Resources (Hydrology and Hydraulics): Managing water resources engineering projects involving rainfall analysis, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, stormwater management, and technical guidance documents with an accent on public-sector consulting and multidisciplinary team leadership. Focus on advanced statistical analysis of rainfall and streamflow, reviewing technical assumptions with agency stakeholders, and delivering projects across Southern California.

Location: San Diego, California, USA; based in Southern California with hybrid work and regional travel within Southern California.

Salary: $110,000–$170,000 per year, depending on experience and expertise.

What you will do

  • Manage water resources engineering projects involving rainfall analysis, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, and stormwater management.
  • Develop technical guidance documents and support civil and water-related projects.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams and mentor technical professionals.
  • Build client relationships and support business development activities.
  • Attend client meetings and conduct regional business travel using a company or personal vehicle.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, water resources, environmental engineering, or a related engineering field.
  • At least 8 years of hydrology and hydraulics experience for public-sector or private consulting clients.
  • Strong experience with rainfall-runoff modeling and statistical hydrology, including at least 3 years of project management experience.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) in California.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams, mentoring technical professionals, supporting business development, and strengthening client relationships.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required for business-related travel.

Nice to have

  • Relationships with California agencies and public-sector clients.
  • Experience with county or regional hydrology manuals, drainage criteria, and technical guidance documents.
  • Advanced statistical analysis of rainfall and streamflow, including nonstationary hydrologic conditions and post-fire hydrology.
  • Experience reviewing and defending technical assumptions with agency reviewers.
  • Practical experience with HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, and SWMM.
