TL;DR

What you will do

  • Evaluate English Language Learners using diagnostic and state-mandated assessments, set goals, and track individual progress.
  • Provide direct English as a New Language instruction to small groups and inclusion support in ELA classes.
  • Help students access the general education curriculum, build ELA skills, and use technology-enhanced learning tools.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, case management, compliance activities, and accurate ELL performance-data tracking.
  • Advise teachers on curriculum modifications, accommodations, and sheltered content instruction.
  • Implement standards-aligned curricula, analyze assessment data, differentiate instruction, and communicate with students, families, and colleagues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
  • New York State ESOL certification is required; bilingual certification is preferred but not required.
  • Strong knowledge of English as a New Language and relevant academic subjects.
  • Self-motivation, teamwork, personal responsibility, and the ability to apply feedback from school leaders and colleagues.
  • Proven record of high achievement in the classroom; at least two years of urban public or charter school teaching experience preferred.
  • A cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher by the start of employment.
