Supplier Quality Engineer (Manufacturing)

Location: East Syracuse, NY, USA; full-time onsite role with occasional domestic supplier travel of approximately 10% of annual working time.

Salary: USD 70,000–110,000 annually, plus a target 10% profit-sharing bonus.

What you will do

• Disposition nonconforming incoming and production material, define rework or return-to-vendor outcomes, and maintain MRB documentation in SAP.
• Lead 8D investigations and apply 5-Why, fishbone, and fault-tree analysis to identify verified root causes.
• Issue and close Supplier Corrective Action Requests, maintain supplier scorecards, and address underperforming suppliers with sourcing.
• Support production technicians and supervisors with containment, build and test quality issues, and escalation of systemic problems.
• Conduct SPC studies, analyze historical quality data, and prioritize continuous improvement initiatives.
• Plan supplier quality audits, document findings, and verify corrective action closure through follow-up or re-audits.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
• At least 2 years of experience in quality or manufacturing engineering in a high-mix production environment.
• Knowledge of engineering drawing interpretation and GD&T.
• Experience leading 8D root-cause and corrective-action investigations.
• Proficiency with mechanical measurement tools, including calipers, micrometers, and CMM interpretation.
• Ability to work onsite in East Syracuse, New York, with approximately 10% domestic supplier travel.

Nice to have

• Supplier quality audits or second-party quality system assessment experience.
• Knowledge of SPC methodologies and tools.
• Familiarity with SAP or similar ERP systems, including MRB and purchasing workflows.
• Experience in high-cleanliness, tight-tolerance, or precision manufacturing.
• ASQ Certified Quality Engineer or Certified Quality Auditor certification.
