TL;DR
Network or Electronics Engineer - CSA (FAA communications systems): Engineering and delivering FAA electronic system installations and VOIP telecommunications infrastructure across U.S. regions with an accent on radio systems, facility integration, and field deployment. Focus on developing implementation plans and design packages, coordinating installation teams, troubleshooting electrical and communications systems, and validating complex infrastructure.

Location: Chicago, Illinois, United States; assignments across FAA-aligned regions within the United States. Candidates may work remotely, with 20%–100% travel required for field-based installations.

Salary: $35.00–$57.00 per hour.

What you will do

  • Manage FAA telecommunications and electronic system installation projects through initiating, planning, execution, monitoring, control, and closeout.
  • Develop engineering implementation plans, instructions, design packages, cost estimates, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Review structural, electrical, Telco, and signal-flow drawings and conduct initial facility site surveys.
  • Engineer and oversee installations involving radio equipment, VOIP/VCS systems, racks, antennas, RF cables, grounding, lightning protection, towers, and facility components.
  • Coordinate with project managers, financial analysts, facility managers, and installation teams to ensure readiness, material availability, and scope alignment.
  • Support systems integration, electrical troubleshooting, and validation of copper, coaxial, and fiber-optic communications links.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship is required for government contract work, and candidates must pass a federal background investigation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field, or six years of relevant technical experience; equivalent military training may be considered.
  • Ability to travel 20%–100%, work in field environments, and climb antenna towers up to 100 feet.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics and blueprints and work with tools, test equipment, and construction materials.
  • Valid, current driver’s license and access to a credit card for travel expenses advanced by the employee and reimbursed under company policy.
  • Experience with electrical troubleshooting and communication test equipment, including multimeters, power meters, Anritsu, and similar tools.

Nice to have

  • At least two years of experience delivering engineering implementation plans, engineering instructions, and CAD drawings.
  • Experience working at FAA facilities.
  • Strong understanding of manual and power tools.
