Design Manager - Hyperscale (Data Centres)

Location: Melbourne, Australia; hybrid working practices.

What you will do

• Lead the planning and technical design of hyperscale data centre projects from due diligence through handover.
• Coordinate architects, engineers, specialty consultants, Engineering and Design Centre of Excellence subject-matter experts, and sector leads.
• Deliver scalable, resilient, compliant designs focused on safety, buildability, prefabrication, reliability, and sustainability.
• Manage project planning, design risks, cost and commercial matters, and quality control across multiple projects and sub-projects.
• Apply design standards, briefs, scopes of services, lessons learned, and standardised long-lead equipment to improve delivery speed and project outcomes.
• Lead and motivate multidisciplinary teams while fostering collaboration, accountability, and workforce engagement.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in data centre or mission-critical design management.
• Degree in architecture, electrical, mechanical, structural, or civil engineering, or another relevant industry qualification.
• Experience with consulting engineers, principal contractors, or client-side design management.
• Strong understanding of data centre design, construction methods, materials, building codes, regulations, and safety standards.
• Proficiency with design management and collaboration tools, including the ability to manage multiple concurrent design projects.
• Ability to anticipate and resolve technical, customer, and site-related issues and to lead multidisciplinary teams.
