Head of Electrical Engineering (Renewable Energy)

Location: Charlottesville, Virginia, USA. Primarily office-based during traditional office hours, with flexible hours when business operations permit and travel to project sites as necessary.

What you will do

• Lead electrical engineering across development, EPC execution, commissioning, and operations.
• Establish engineering standards, design criteria, and technical governance for operating assets and the development pipeline.
• Oversee electrical system design for substations, collector systems, interconnection facilities, and protection and controls.
• Improve plant performance, availability, and reliability through analytics, root cause analysis, and corrective action programs.
• Own grid compliance and interconnection strategies, including upgrades, repowering, and capacity expansions.
• Lead technical due diligence, supplier and EOR relationships, executive reporting, and development of the engineering organization.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; an advanced degree is preferred.
• 10+ years of power systems experience, including significant exposure to utility-scale renewable energy assets.
• 5+ years of leadership experience in an IPP, utility, or large developer environment.
• Experience supporting both project execution and operating asset portfolios.
• Expertise in 69 kV–500 kV high-voltage systems, substations, grid interconnection, and North American grid operators including PJM, MISO, ERCOT, and CAISO.
• Experience with PSS®E, PSCAD, or ETAP; a Professional Engineer license is preferred.
