TL;DR
Data Centre Technician (Critical Infrastructure): Operating and maintaining electrical, mechanical, power, cooling, and monitoring systems in a Tier III or equivalent data centre with an accent on safety, uptime, risk management, and customer service. Focus on diagnosing faults through BMS platforms, supporting high-density infrastructure, improving data hall monitoring, and maintaining reliable 24/7 operations.

What you will do

  • Operate and maintain critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure in a 24/7 data centre environment.
  • Assess, analyse, and mitigate OH&S, security, and facility-system risks using the hirify.global Risk Management Framework.
  • Install and support customer infrastructure, including power monitoring, rack security, environmental controls, deliveries, and equipment assembly.
  • Monitor and diagnose system performance through BMS and related platforms, performing fault finding to minimise MTTR.
  • Improve data hall monitoring for temperature, humidity, alarms, and power while producing operational reports and recommendations.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call roster, team activities, training, and ongoing professional development.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience in a similar role within a data centre or colocation environment supporting approximately 2.5MW or more of critical IT load in a Tier III or equivalent facility.
  • Australian citizenship is required to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance.
  • Recognised trade qualifications and hands-on experience in electrical or another relevant trade; transferable skills from related trades are welcomed.
  • Knowledge of data centre operations, including rack management, IT installations, cooling, and power systems.
  • Strong customer service, communication, planning, organisational, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts.
  • Working knowledge of ITIL principles and the ability to mentor and support junior team members.

Nice to have

  • Relevant electrical, mechanical, or related trade qualifications.
  • Exposure to BMS and other service platforms.
  • Experience or interest in high-density power and advanced cooling technologies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
