Project Developer - Utility Scale (Solar PV & BESS): Leading the end-to-end development of utility-scale solar PV and battery energy storage projects of 50MW+MWh+ in Africa with an accent on permitting, land acquisition, grid interconnection, and project financial viability. Focus on structuring PPAs, securing approvals and financial close, managing stakeholder relationships, and mitigating development risks through handover to implementation.
Location: Nairobi, Kenya

What you will do
- Lead the end-to-end development of utility-scale solar PV and BESS projects of 50MW+MWh+.
- Identify sites, conduct feasibility studies, develop land acquisition strategies, and manage permitting and regulatory approvals.
- Structure and negotiate PPAs and offtake arrangements, and lead grid interconnection applications, studies, and utility negotiations.
- Coordinate communities, utilities, regulators, investors, government agencies, consultants, and strategic partners.
- Oversee financial modeling, development budgets, project reporting, risk mitigation, and investment-readiness activities.
- Align technical design and permitting conditions with Engineering and Implementation teams and support EPC tender preparation and project handover.
Requirements
- 7–12 years of experience in large-scale renewable energy project development.
- At least 3–5 utility-scale projects above 50MW+MWh+ advanced to financial close.
- Proven experience structuring and negotiating PPAs and working on solar PV and BESS projects in Africa or emerging markets.
- Knowledge of land acquisition, permitting, environmental and social impact assessments, and grid interconnection processes in Africa.
- Experience with project financial modeling, investment-readiness processes, and community and government stakeholder relationships.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Renewable Energy, Environmental Management, Business, or a related field.
