Military Family Life Counselor - OCONUS (Behavioral Health): Providing short-term, non-medical counseling, consultation, and health and wellness training for military service members and their families at overseas military installations with an accent on brief clinical support, community relationships, and military cultural awareness. Focus on responding to critical incidents, managing duty-to-warn and restricted-reporting situations, and delivering services across changing installation environments.

Location: Kittery, Maine, with required travel to overseas military installations in Europe and Africa for 6 months to 1 year.

Salary: $59,922–$100,280 per year.

What you will do

  • Provide non-medical, short-term, solution-focused counseling, assessment, action planning, referrals, and follow-up for service members and their families.
  • Deliver health and wellness presentations, training sessions, and installation activities.
  • Consult with installation command and military Points of Contact on behavioral health needs.
  • Respond to critical incidents, surge events, urgent requests, and special assignments.
  • Manage duty-to-warn and restricted-reporting situations according to Department of Defense protocols.
  • Document counselor activity, participate in supervision and training, and contribute to quality improvement and pilot programs.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in a mental health-related field, behavioral health, or social work.
  • Valid unrestricted independent counseling license from a US state, District of Columbia, US territory, or commonwealth.
  • At least one year of post-licensure clinical experience.
  • US citizenship, fluent English, and an active passport are required.
  • Ability to travel overseas for 6 months to 1 year and work across indoor, outdoor, and varied military installation environments.
  • Ability to pass NACI, Installation Records Check, criminal history, and FBI fingerprint checks; a valid US driver’s license is also required unless waived.
