TL;DR
Communication Electronics Installation Technician (FAA): Installing and integrating communications facilities across the United States, including VHF/UHF radios, radio control equipment, cabling, grounding, antennas, and supporting infrastructure with an accent on FAA National Airspace System integration and field troubleshooting. Focus on testing radio systems, generating FAA documentation, interpreting engineering diagrams, and solving installation challenges in geographically isolated environments.

Location: Kansas City, Missouri, United States; 100% travel across the United States

Salary: $20.00–$49.00 per hour, W-2

What you will do

  • Install, configure, align, test, and troubleshoot VHF and UHF ground-to-air radio systems.
  • Set up Radio Control Equipment and integrate Commercial Telco, RCL, field cable, and fiber-optic requirements.
  • Install radio racks, antennas, cable trays, conduit, coaxial cabling, grounding systems, surge protection, and basic electrical connections.
  • Remove legacy communications equipment and install Government Furnished Equipment.
  • Perform baseline electronic readings, generate FRDF documentation, and coordinate frequency outages in accordance with FAA technical handbooks.
  • Interface with FAA Air Traffic and Technical Operations personnel while supporting field installation and construction crews.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • 100% travel across the United States is required, including work in geographically isolated environments and non-standard hours when required.
  • At least two years of relevant experience plus an associate’s degree or a two-year technical training or certification program in a relevant field.
  • Experience installing and maintaining VHF/UHF ground-to-air communication equipment and familiarity with FAA NAS communications systems, cabling, and equipment.
  • Ability to read schematics, blueprints, engineering packages, and electrical wiring diagrams; generate FAA FRDF documentation; and set up Radio Control Equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license, ability to obtain a federal security clearance, ability to lift up to 75 pounds, move up to 350 pounds with equipment, and work at heights exceeding 60 feet.

Nice to have

  • Experience with spectrum analyzers, time-domain reflectometers, signal generators, oscilloscopes, microwave systems, voice switch systems, or air traffic control systems.
  • Commercial driver’s license, trailer experience, or heavy equipment operation experience.
