Location: Fort Story, Virginia, at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story

Salary: $59,922–$100,280 annually, depending on location, skills, experience, education, and other job-related factors.

What you will do

  • Provide non-medical, short-term, solution-focused counseling, assessment, action planning, referrals, and follow-up for eligible children and youth.
  • Support Department of Defense and community school personnel, youth programs, summer camps, and families through consultation, training, and guidance.
  • Deliver health and wellness presentations, participate in health fairs, and support installation activities focused on children and youth.
  • Build relationships with installation points of contact, schools, community resources, and military branch representatives.
  • Document counselor activity data while maintaining client confidentiality and anonymity.
  • Respond to critical incidents and special requests, participate in supervision and quality improvement activities, and manage duty-to-warn and restricted-reporting situations under DoD protocols.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited graduate program in a mental health-related field, behavioral health, or social work.
  • Current unrestricted independent counseling licensure from a U.S. state, the District of Columbia, a U.S. territory, or commonwealth.
  • At least two years of post-licensure clinical experience and experience with children and youth.
  • School-assigned counselors must have prior experience working in a school setting and meet MFLC CYB criteria for child and adolescent development or psychology.
  • U.S. citizenship and fluent English are required.
  • Successful completion of CNACI, Installation Records Check, criminal history, and FBI fingerprint checks is required. A valid U.S. state driver’s license is also required unless waived.
