Group Director, Software Engineering - Full Stack AI Strategy (AI)

Location: Onsite at the Bentonville Home Office, Arkansas, United States

Salary: $195,000–$370,000 per year, plus performance-based bonuses and possible stock compensation.

What you will do

• Define the vision, roadmap, and operating model for Walmart's end-to-end enterprise AI lifecycle.
• Unify AI discovery, development, evaluation, governance, deployment, runtime management, and continuous improvement.
• Accelerate delivery of AI solutions by removing process bottlenecks and designing scalable onboarding, deployment, and governance mechanisms.
• Establish standards for AI development, agentic systems, model lifecycle management, AI operations, and AI-native delivery.
• Embed governance, security, privacy, compliance, observability, automated reviews, and runtime safeguards into AI workflows.
• Lead cross-functional teams, executive reporting, adoption measurement, and enterprise-wide organizational transformation.

Requirements

• Experience leading large-scale enterprise platform or transformation initiatives.
• Proven success delivering products or platforms used by thousands of internal or external users.
• Experience leading software engineering, product management, or platform strategy organizations and managing senior leaders and distributed teams.
• Strong understanding of modern AI/ML technologies, generative AI, agent frameworks, and software development practices.
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant computer science or engineering field with 8 years of software engineering experience, or 10 years of relevant experience.
• At least 5 years of supervisory experience.

Nice to have

• Experience building AI, ML, developer, or enterprise productivity platforms.
• Experience with AI governance, responsible AI, risk management, or regulatory frameworks.
• Deep knowledge of developer experience, platform engineering, and software lifecycle management.
• Master's degree in a relevant field with 6 years of software engineering experience.
• Knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA, assistive technologies, and digital accessibility best practices.
