Director of Engineering, Search Query Understanding and Guidance (AI/ML)

Location: United States of America; flexible hybrid work with occasional in-person events or team sessions

Compensation: $160,965–$349,885 per year, plus potential discretionary annual bonus or commissions

What you will do

• Guide the design and implementation of large-scale, evolving ML-based solutions across multiple engineering teams.
• Define technical requirements covering data strategies, knowledge grounding, evaluation frameworks, and scalable production serving.
• Drive technical discussions and alignment across engineering, product, design, and research teams.
• Guide the adoption of large language models, vision models, generative AI, and Agentic AI in line with product strategy.
• Lead cross-team data analysis to identify patterns, validate hypotheses, and inform product direction.

Requirements

• 8+ years of industry experience with increasing responsibility and strategic influence.
• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, Applied Math, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Strategic technical leadership experience applying AI, machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing to business problems.
• Expertise in Python and Java or C++ for scalable and robust systems.
• Strong communication skills and experience aligning engineering, product, and research stakeholders.
