Independent Engineering Director (Energy Infrastructure)

Location: Remote within the United States, with on-site meetings expected; project sites nationwide. Initial work site: Washington, DC.

What you will do

• Serve as the overall independent engineering technical authority and DOE/LPO-facing lead.
• Direct technical due diligence, credit evaluation, lifecycle monitoring, and assurance activities for large-scale energy infrastructure projects.
• Review project documentation, data rooms, technical and commercial interfaces, assumptions, risks, mitigations, and conditions precedent.
• Coordinate engineering, finance, legal, construction, operations, environmental, HSE, and project controls stakeholders.
• Prepare lender-ready independent engineering opinions, executive reviews, governance materials, monitoring reports, and certification work products.
• Support site observations, borrower and contractor interviews, draw package checks, risk register updates, and issue closure tracking.

Requirements

• 15+ years of progressive experience in energy infrastructure, engineering advisory, project finance, program management, or independent engineering.
• 5+ years leading multidisciplinary teams, client delivery, and senior stakeholder engagement for federal, lender, or owner-side programs.
• Bachelor's degree in engineering, geoscience, petroleum engineering, mechanical, electrical, chemical, civil, environmental, or a related technical field.
• Experience with independent engineering review, technical due diligence, risk assessment, data room review, report writing, Excel-based analysis, and stakeholder coordination.
• Strong technical judgment, independence, analytical rigor, documentation discipline, issue escalation, and ability to translate technical evidence into financing and risk implications.
• STD background check clearance designation and 1099 contract engagement requirements apply.

Nice to have

• PE, PMP, CSP, API, NACE/AMPP, PMI, or discipline-specific credentials.
• Experience with oil and gas, power, utilities, pipelines, LNG infrastructure, refineries, petrochemical facilities, transmission, grid modernization, or energy storage.
• Advanced proficiency with Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word; familiarity with Adobe Acrobat, data analytics tools, and Visio.
