Operations Engineer (Robotics)

Location: San Francisco, CA; in-person at data collection sites with regular floor presence and travel between sites as needed

Salary: $115,000–$150,000/year, plus equity

What you will do

• Provide first-line technical support beyond routine maintenance for rigs, teleoperation systems, capture systems, and operational software.
• Build operator-facing interfaces, checklists, automations, and workflows for setup, calibration, and diagnostics.
• Create observability for rig health, calibration drift, capture pipeline status, and operational alerts.
• Bridge collection-site operations and engineering by routing issues, specifying engineering requests, and translating changes into SOPs, runbooks, and training.
• Support hardware-line diagnosis, site ramps, rig installation, station configuration, and new-site bring-up.
• Use production data to prioritize failures, reduce lost collection time, and convert effective workarounds into permanent fixes.

Requirements

• 0–5 years of experience supporting and improving complex robotics or hardware/software systems in a production environment, or at least 2 years of experience with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Robotics.
• Strong debugging skills, including reading technical logs and interpreting data across hardware and software systems.
• Fluency with scripting and data analysis using Python, SQL, or equivalent; ability to build and ship lightweight internal tools.
• Clear communication and documentation skills for runbooks, interfaces, and engineering requests.
• Ability to work autonomously across multiple sites and stakeholder groups, including sound judgment during urgent operational issues.
• Hands-on comfort with rigs, sensors, cameras, cabling, and production-floor hardware.
