Electrical Engineer (Robotics)

Location: San Carlos, California, United States; on-site

Salary: $160,000–$200,000 base pay per year, depending on skills, qualifications, and experience.

What you will do

• Design, prototype, and iterate custom robot PCBs from schematic capture through board layout.
• Bring up, debug, and test electrical hardware across the current robot fleet.
• Help define electrical architecture and inform next-generation robot design.
• Create design documentation, lead design reviews, and perform bench modifications and rapid hardware prototyping.
• Collaborate with mechanical, firmware, and software engineers to meet performance requirements and optimize hardware-firmware interfaces.
• Work with fabrication houses and contract manufacturers to move boards from prototype to production while addressing EMC compliance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of electrical or hardware engineering experience.
• Strong electrical and embedded systems fundamentals.
• Experience with schematic capture, PCB layout, board production, fab houses, contract manufacturers, and EMC compliance; Altium experience is preferred.
• Hands-on experience debugging complex electro-mechanical hardware using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and DMMs.
• Familiarity with USB, I2C, SPI, UART, RS485, and similar communication protocols, plus strong technical communication skills.

Nice to have

• Firmware development experience in C.
• Python scripting and experience working in Linux environments.
• Proficiency with microcontrollers, especially STM32.
• Experience with BLDC motors, motor control, robotics, or mechatronic systems.
