Medical Records Retrieval Specialist

Location: Jamestown, North Dakota, United States; hybrid workplace with primarily remote work and periodic onsite retrieval assignments

Salary: $13–$14 per hour for remote EMR download work; onsite assignments pay $20 per hour or $3 per completed record, whichever is higher.

What you will do

• Retrieve medical records from EMR/EHR systems using secure, HIPAA-compliant tools.
• Check records for completeness, legibility, and accurate capture.
• Scan, index, validate, and upload medical documentation into company systems.
• Coordinate access with provider offices and communicate professionally with provider staff.
• Conduct onsite retrievals when remote access is unavailable, including local travel and occasional air travel.
• Safely manage and transport company-issued equipment.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic computer literacy and comfort using EMR/EHR portals or secure digital tools.
• Strong attention to detail, documentation accuracy, organization, communication, and professionalism.
• Strict confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and PHI-handling requirements.
• Valid active driver’s license, clean motor vehicle record, and a personal vehicle with active insurance in the candidate’s name.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds and complete local travel or occasional flights as required.

Nice to have

• Experience with medical records, EMR/EHR systems, healthcare administration, or provider-facing roles.
• Working knowledge of HIPAA and PHI handling.
• Previous remote or field-based medical record retrieval experience.
