Director & Actuary (Health Insurance)

Location: Chicago, Illinois, United States; hybrid, in office 3 days per week

Base pay: $133,400–$247,700 annually, plus eligibility for an annual incentive bonus.

What you will do

• Direct the work of actuaries and potentially non-actuaries across long-term projects and work streams.
• Set actuarial team strategy, oversee modeling, and guide the selection of tools, technology, and resources.
• Ensure compliance with applicable requirements and Actuarial Standards of Practice.
• Communicate actuarial insights across the organization and prepare presentations for high-level decision-making.
• Manage and develop actuarial managers and analysts, including support for difficult staff conversations.
• Oversee annual budgets, allocate resources, develop business cases, and conduct cost-benefit analyses.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or another qualifying discipline.
• FSA and MAAA credentials, or four years of health insurance actuarial experience at the ASA level in place of FSA.
• At least 7 years of actuarial experience in health insurance or a related field.
• Expert understanding of actuarial concepts, multiple actuarial areas, and at least one business segment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for documentation, training, and presentations.
• PC proficiency, including Word and Excel.

Nice to have

• Experience supporting Individual and Small Group health insurance products, including level-funded products.
• Knowledge of ACA market dynamics, risk adjustment, rate development, product strategy, and regulatory requirements.
