TL;DR
Fire Protection Engineer (FPE) - Engineering (EN102) (Fire Protection Program Improvement): Performing fire-protection assessments, analyzing program gaps, and developing corrective actions for operations at the Savannah River Site with an accent on NFPA, S/RID, Safety Basis, and DOE compliance. Focus on causal analysis, fire-protection database administration, technical document review, and coordination with engineering and operations personnel.

Location: Onsite at Savannah River Site / Aiken, South Carolina, USA. The role supports Savannah River Mission Completion and the U.S. Department of Energy site.

Compensation: USD 150,000–200,705 per year.

What you will do

  • Perform internal fire-protection assessments and observations and analyze internal and external assessment results.
  • Identify program issues, gaps, vulnerabilities, improvement opportunities, and corrective actions.
  • Review technical reports, procedures, program documents, and assessment evidence with limited supervision.
  • Develop, maintain, and administer fire-protection databases covering S/RID, NFPA, and FPDS requirements.
  • Perform causal analyses using CST inputs to support root-cause remediation and proactive risk reduction.
  • Collaborate with Fire Protection Engineers, Design Authority Engineers, and Facility Operations personnel to revise procedures, training protocols, and implementation actions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or associate degree in business, communications, education, engineering, or a related discipline, combined with at least 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in project or technical support, document control, or configuration control within a nuclear, chemical, or similarly regulated facility.
  • Experience implementing S/RID and Safety Basis requirements at the Savannah River Site.
  • Quality-assurance auditing, causal analysis, and Operational Readiness Review or comparable readiness-assessment experience.
  • Familiarity with electronic document-control and configuration-management systems, including SRS Linking Document Database or FPDS.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, along with strong technical writing, analytical, and interpersonal skills.

Nice to have

  • Conduct of Operations training.
  • Experience supporting nuclear or chemical facility operations and working with SRS procedures and requirements.

Culture & Benefits

  • Contract engagement with a scheduled 40-hour workweek; available schedules include 5/8s, 4/10s, and 9/80s, with 4/10 preferred.
  • The workweek excludes Savannah River Site holidays.
  • The assignment is performed in close coordination with engineering, operations, quality-assurance, training, and site personnel.
