Advanced Software Engineer (Cloud and Distributed Systems): Providing technical leadership across multiple teams while designing and executing complex engineering initiatives across architecture, backend systems, and production operations with an accent on distributed systems, cloud platforms, and large-scale data systems. Focus on shaping system architecture, translating ambiguous requirements into reliable solutions, mentoring engineers, and improving observability and operational excellence.
Location: 100% remote within the United States
Salary: $100,000–$150,000 annually

What you will do
- Provide deep technical leadership across multiple engineering teams.
- Design and execute complex, cross-cutting engineering initiatives.
- Shape architecture and translate ambiguous requirements into well-engineered solutions.
- Collaborate with product, design, engineering, operations, and business stakeholders.
- Raise engineering standards through code reviews, design reviews, mentorship, and technical guidance.
- Drive reliable production delivery and influence engineering culture and standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
- At least 8 years of professional software engineering experience.
- Experience leading complex, cross-team engineering initiatives.
- Deep expertise in distributed systems, cloud platforms, or large-scale data systems, with strong programming skills in a major backend language.
- Strong system-design, architecture, reliability, and observability skills.
- Demonstrated mentorship, technical leadership, communication, and ability to influence engineering standards.
Nice to have
- Experience driving multi-year platform modernization initiatives.
- Public technical contributions such as talks, papers, or open-source software.
- Hands-on experience operating large-scale production systems.
- Experience building engineering organizations and platforms.
- Familiarity with FinOps and cost-aware engineering practices.
