Service Infrastructure Engineer (Istio)

Location: 100% remote within the United States

Salary: $100,000–$150,000 annually

What you will do

• Design, deploy, and operate Istio and Linkerd service mesh platforms across Kubernetes environments.
• Provide secure, observable, and reliable service-to-service communication using mTLS and traffic policies.
• Manage Envoy-based data plane and control plane components.
• Support application teams with pragmatic service mesh adoption and troubleshooting.
• Build tooling and automation for platform operations using Go or Python.

Requirements

• Must be eligible to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen, Green Card holder, EAD holder, or H-1B transfer candidate.
• New H-1B visa petitions cannot be sponsored for this position.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• At least five years of experience in platform engineering, SRE, or networking roles.
• Production experience operating Istio or Linkerd, with strong knowledge of Envoy, Kubernetes networking, CNI, and ingress.
• Strong understanding of mTLS, PKI, certificate lifecycle management, distributed tracing, and troubleshooting across networking, application, and control plane layers.

Nice to have

• Multi-cluster Istio or Linkerd deployment experience.
• Familiarity with Cilium service mesh and eBPF networking.
• Open-source contributions to service mesh projects.
• Experience with SPIFFE/SPIRE and enterprise-scale zero-trust networking initiatives.
