Location: Dearborn, Michigan, United States. Hybrid role with a requirement to be onsite four or more days per week. Periodic domestic and international travel is expected for supplier sites and global partner coordination. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.
Salary: $86,600–$144,900 per year; salary grade 7.

What you will do
- Own design and release responsibilities for BESS container subsystems, including thermal management, fire detection and suppression, deflagration venting, structural enclosures, and electrical integration.
- Develop and maintain system and component design specifications, bills of material, bills of design, and release documentation.
- Lead or support DFMEA, DVPR, design reviews, engineering changes, and release decisions based on DV/PV testing.
- Drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions for issues found during testing, build events, or field operation.
- Support Total Value Management through should-cost models, benchmarking, value engineering, and cost-benefit trade studies.
- Partner with Purchasing, suppliers, Quality, Manufacturing, Systems Engineering, and testing teams on sourcing, qualification, PPAP, and design maturity.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 3+ years of experience in design and release engineering or product engineering, ideally with BESS, automotive, or complex electromechanical systems.
- Knowledge of relevant battery energy storage standards, including UL 9540/9540A, NFPA 855/68, and IEC 62619.
- Experience with DFMEA, DVPR, BOM/BOD, design release documentation, and supplier or sourcing activities.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills and experience working with external suppliers or battery partners.
- Proficiency with CAD and PLM tools such as NX, Teamcenter, CATIA, or similar.
Nice to have
- Experience with container- or enclosure-level thermal, fire suppression, venting, or structural subsystems.
- Exposure to should-cost modeling, Value Engineering/Value Analysis, DFSS, or DOE.
- Experience translating UL 9540A thermal runaway testing results into design actions.
- Experience supporting BESS or energy storage programs from concept through production launch.
- Advanced engineering degree.
