TL;DR
Design Release Engineer - Chassis Steering (Automotive): Designing, releasing, and integrating steering system components into vehicle systems with an accent on design validation, supplier execution, and safety and quality performance. Focus on leading product development teams, solving complex design issues through FEA and virtual builds, and balancing cost, mass, and timing in program decisions.

Location: Warren, Michigan, United States; hybrid attendance at a specific location at least 3 times per week. Travel required for less than 25% of the role. Relocation benefits are not provided.

What you will do

  • Lead the Product Development Team for steering system components.
  • Manage the design, release, and integration of steering components into vehicle systems.
  • Complete program ICDs, DFMEAs, peer reviews, and design validation activities on schedule.
  • Oversee pre-production builds and ensure components are test-ready and aligned with program milestones.
  • Use FEA, modal analysis, virtual builds, math data, and trade-off studies to solve design issues and guide decisions on cost, mass, and timing.
  • Coordinate technical reviews and cross-functional work with suppliers, purchasing, manufacturing, and supplier quality teams while monitoring warranty issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
  • At least 2 years of relevant post-graduation experience.
  • Knowledge of engineering theory, design principles, system integration, manufacturing processes, and engineering operations.
  • Familiarity with CAD tools and specification and release systems.
  • Strong analytical, communication, interpersonal, independent-work, and collaboration skills.
  • Valid driver’s license, ability to operate a motor vehicle daily, and ability to travel.

Nice to have

  • Prior experience as a Design Release Engineer.
  • DFSS certification.
