Java Architect

Location: Hybrid in Albany, New York; candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

What you will do

• Lead deep-dive architecture assessments across 15 SYS IDs and document current-state architectures.
• Design L2 sequence diagrams, data-flow diagrams, and current-state to target-state architecture comparisons.
• Define IBM MQ RDQM queue topologies, message-ordering strategies, and event-driven patterns.
• Develop Oracle AQ and IBM MQ RDQM migration patterns toward Confluent Kafka.
• Define service boundaries and assess Spring Boot application migration paths.
• Design OpenShift deployment architecture, including pod sizing, resource quotas, and namespace strategy.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience with Java, Spring Boot development, and architecture.
• Hands-on production experience with IBM MQ and message-driven middleware.
• Strong expertise with self-managed OpenShift Container Platform rather than ROSA.
• Experience with Confluent Kafka architecture, migration planning, and event-driven patterns such as Pub/Sub, Request/Reply, and Saga.
• Understanding of Oracle-to-PostgreSQL migration and experience with Autosys job scheduling.
• Strong architectural documentation, technical leadership, and diagramming skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with ActiveMQ, Oracle AQ, IBM MQ RDQM, and Oracle Database Administration.
• Experience migrating Java and Spring Boot applications to cloud or container platforms.
• Experience with AWS EC2, lift-and-shift modernization, and large-scale programs involving multiple SYS IDs.
