Senior/Staff Systems Engineer, Platform Systems (Autonomous Vehicles)

Location: Mountain View, California, United States (HQ)

Base pay: $160,360–$291,150 per year, depending on level, experience, qualifications, education, location, and skills. The position is also eligible for an annual performance bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead system-level requirements definition, architecture design, integration strategy, and validation for platform areas including autonomy sensors, AV compute, motion control, pose/localization, and end-to-end latency.
• Characterize system performance, define targets and acceptance criteria across operational design domains, and recommend operating constraints for current and future vehicle platforms.
• Define test coverage and assess test realism across simulation, SIL/HIL, closed-course, and on-road environments.
• Partner with software, hardware, electrical engineering, and external vendor teams on interfaces, performance metrics, failure modes, component selection, and integration.
• Support verification and validation by reviewing and implementing SIL/HIL test cases and analyzing simulation, HIL/SIL, and on-road test data.
• Perform root cause analysis for complex cross-functional integration and testing issues and drive them to resolution.

Requirements

• Deep understanding of robotic systems and verification and validation planning.
• 3+ years of experience in autonomy sensors, AV compute, motion control, pose/localization, or end-to-end latency.
• Experience with HIL environments or on-road testing.
• Hands-on systems engineering experience.
• Ability to read C++ code and write code in Python or MATLAB.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Nice to have

• AV or ADAS background.
• Familiarity with safety standards such as STPA and ISO 21448.
