Staff Applications Engineer

Location: 100% remote within the United States

Salary: $150,000–$190,000 annually

What you will do

• Lead the architecture, design, and production delivery of large-scale, cross-functional engineering initiatives.
• Define architectural standards, engineering principles, reusable design patterns, and technical roadmaps.
• Lead architecture reviews, technical design discussions, RFCs, design specifications, and architecture decision records.
• Drive improvements in scalability, reliability, performance, security, maintainability, observability, and operational excellence.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to senior engineers across multiple engineering teams.
• Lead incident response, contribute hands-on development, and collaborate with engineering, product, architecture, and executive stakeholders.

Requirements

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including leadership of large-scale, cross-functional initiatives.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Experience designing and delivering distributed systems, cloud-native applications, or large-scale enterprise platforms.
• Deep expertise in distributed systems, cloud platforms, microservices architecture, or large-scale data systems.
• Strong programming skills in at least one of Java, C#, Go, Python, or C++.
• Experience with system architecture, scalability, reliability, performance optimization, cloud infrastructure, DevOps, CI/CD, monitoring, and operational excellence.

Nice to have

• Experience with enterprise platform modernization or digital transformation initiatives.
• Public technical contributions such as conference presentations, open-source projects, technical blogs, or published papers.
• Experience operating high-scale production systems and influencing engineering organizations or technology strategy.
• Familiarity with FinOps and cloud cost optimization.
• Experience with Kubernetes, containerization, Infrastructure as Code, Terraform, CloudFormation, AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
