Senior Software Engineer | C5 SW Architect (Defense)

Location: Taunton, MA, US; remote, with on-site or hybrid/flex work supported at the Taunton campus and travel to customer sites. U.S. citizenship is required.

Salary: USD $157,487.00–$174,713.00 per year.

What you will do

• Provide hands-on architectural and technical leadership for a cross-functional team developing and integrating mission-critical combat vehicle software.
• Design and develop tactical applications, reusable backend microservices, and TAKX, ATAK, WinTAK, and TAK Server plugins and services.
• Own containerization, packaging, deployment, orchestration, and automated provisioning strategies for distributed systems.
• Support embedded Linux images, board support packages, kernel and driver configurations, and container-runtime environments.
• Partner with Systems and Cybersecurity Engineers on trade studies, behavioral decomposition, requirements allocation, and interface definition.
• Translate operational needs and MBSE models into modular, reusable architectures for tactical networking, sensors, unmanned systems, and cyber/electronic warfare.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering or a related STEM field plus at least 8 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree plus at least 6 years of relevant experience.
• U.S. citizenship is required; eligibility for access to classified information and a U.S. Government security investigation are required.
• Strong hands-on proficiency in C#/.NET and Java, with C/C++ and Python experience in Linux environments.
• Experience with Kubernetes/K3s, Helm, Docker/Podman/containerd, private registries, gRPC, Protocol Buffers, and DDS.
• Embedded Linux experience with Yocto Project, OpenEmbedded, BitBake, PXE/DHCP/NFS, and ruggedized hardware such as OpenVPX.
• Ability to use Cameo/MagicDraw SysML models and interface definitions to create maintainable software designs aligned with MOSA/SOSA standards.
• Experience integrating software with tactical radios, waveforms, EO/IR sensors, UAS feeds, or Electronic Warfare/Counter-UAS systems using military messaging standards.
• Technical leadership, judgment, autonomy, communication, customer presence, and mentoring skills across multidisciplinary teams.

Nice to have

• Department of Defense Secret security clearance at the time of hire.
• Experience identifying responsible uses of approved AI tools, including MCP-enabled workflows, for engineering productivity and quality.
