Principal Software Engineer (Cloud/DevOps)

Location: Remote across approved U.S. locations; candidates must reside in CA, CO, DC, FL, GA, IL, MD, NJ, NY, NC, OH, OK, PA, SC, TX, or VA. Candidates local to the DMV area are preferred and should be willing to work onsite two days per week.

Salary: $165,000–$185,000 USD annually.

What you will do

• Lead technical design for modular, reusable, platform-agnostic solutions across DTC PaaS and SaaS platforms, including Salesforce/MuleSoft, Microsoft Power Platform/Dynamics, Pega, Box, and Appian.
• Design APIs, SaaS integrations, reusable software components, and technical solutions for concurrent enterprise products.
• Translate prioritized agile requirements into technical designs, estimates, and Definitions of Done with scrum teams, platform leads, and VA product owners.
• Prepare solutions for architecture, security, and release-management approval gates and contribute to platform standards.
• Build and maintain cloud DevOps pipelines in GitHub and apply AI-assisted code generation, automated testing, and code-quality analysis with human oversight.
• Lead technical-debt remediation and product-warranty sustainment activities, embed compliance requirements, mentor engineers, and serve as a technical point of contact.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, Business Management, Information Resource Management, Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, or a related field, plus at least 10 years of relevant experience; 10 years of relevant experience may substitute for the degree.
• Demonstrated knowledge and use of modern software development and DevOps tools, including GitHub, and implementation of a DevOps pipeline in a cloud environment.
• Experience serving as Chief Architect or Senior Engineer on a production system in a commercial cloud service provider environment.
• Experience as a Software Engineer on at least one project in a commercial cloud service provider environment.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a VA Public Trust background investigation.
• Authorization to work in the United States.
• Availability on contract award and willingness to sign a letter of commitment.

Nice to have

• Experience delivering on Appian, Pega, or Box.
• Familiarity with Salesforce/MuleSoft and Microsoft Power Platform, including API integrations and reusable software components.
• Experience with VA platforms or VA enterprise environments.
• Experience applying AI-assisted development and automated testing tools.
