TL;DR
Manager, External Affairs, West Region (Clean Energy): Building and maintaining relationships with government officials, tribal governments, labor unions, community organizations, and project stakeholders across California and other Western states with an accent on government affairs, community partnerships, and public policy advocacy. Focus on organizing community events, developing communications materials, supporting clean energy projects, and managing sensitive or controversial issues with tact.

Location: San Diego, California, United States; hybrid role with regular collaboration from company offices. Frequent travel across California and the Western region is required.

Salary: $125,000–$160,000 USD annually, plus eligibility for an annual cash bonus.

What you will do

  • Build and maintain relationships with local government officials, tribal governments, labor unions, business organizations, advocacy groups, residents, landowners, and other project stakeholders.
  • Support government affairs, outreach, and advocacy efforts involving the California State Legislature, Governor’s Office, and state agencies.
  • Develop community partnerships for projects in development in collaboration with site teams and project developers.
  • Organize open houses, tours, local events, and other community engagement activities.
  • Collaborate with plant managers, technicians, construction managers, project developers, and other internal stakeholders across a portfolio of operating and development projects.
  • Create communications materials, develop messaging, and respond to community inquiries.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in government affairs, state or local government, public relations, community organizing, campaigns, or a related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in government, public policy, communications, journalism, or a related field, or an additional 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong connections and understanding of state and local politics in California.
  • Experience engaging elected officials, policymakers, media, the public, and residents.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, organization, interpersonal, problem-solving, and listening skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams; valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel frequently.

Nice to have

  • Energy industry experience and familiarity with clean energy policies, regulations, and permitting processes.
  • Experience with CRM tools such as Borealis or Salesforce.
