Controls Engineer I (EV & Energy Storage)

Location: Onsite in De Soto, Kansas, United States. Valid authorization to work in the U.S. without restriction is required.

What you will do

• Support programming, installation, and troubleshooting of Keyence vision systems used in battery manufacturing.
• Assist with programming, installation, and troubleshooting of Mitsubishi and Omron PLC systems under senior-engineer guidance.
• Analyze product and equipment specifications to support automation designs compatible with existing manufacturing facilities.
• Execute defined controls-engineering tasks for equipment modifications, system improvements, and troubleshooting projects.
• Support experimental testing through planning, data collection, documentation, and analysis.
• Prepare layouts, drawings, schematics, and technical documentation while coordinating with manufacturing, research, and engineering teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, mechanical, industrial, electrical, mechatronics engineering, or a related technical field.
• Foundational knowledge of engineering principles, electrical hardware, electrical drawings, sequence control, and software design.
• Hands-on exposure to manufacturing vision systems such as Keyence or Cognex.
• Hands-on exposure to ladder-logic PLC systems, including Mitsubishi, Omron, Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar platforms.
• Background in or academic exposure to high-volume manufacturing with automated equipment.
• Working-level English proficiency and valid unrestricted U.S. work authorization are required.

Nice to have

• Internship, co-op, academic project, or entry-level experience in manufacturing, industrial automation, or controls.
• Exposure to battery manufacturing, electronics, automotive, or energy storage.
• Knowledge of industrial wiring, 480 V control panels, NFPA 70, NFPA 79, UL standards, or hazardous-location requirements.
• Familiarity with energy monitoring, efficiency optimization, and control-wiring documentation.
