Service-Oriented Architect (Microservices)

Location: 100% remote within the United States

Salary: $150,000–$165,000 annually

What you will do

• Lead the design and evolution of large-scale microservices ecosystems on container platforms and cloud-native technology stacks.
• Define service boundaries using service decomposition and domain-driven design.
• Design distributed data management, APIs, event-driven architectures, and asynchronous messaging.
• Address resilience, observability, security, and performance for high-traffic, latency-sensitive production systems.
• Lead architecture initiatives spanning multiple engineering teams and complex technology transformations.

Requirements

• Must be based in the United States.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
• At least 8 years of software engineering experience, including several years in architecture roles.
• Deep expertise in microservices design, domain-driven design, distributed systems patterns, Kubernetes, container orchestration, and service mesh technologies.
• Proficiency in at least one major backend language: Java, Go, or C#.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to lead initiatives across multiple teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with platform engineering and internal developer platform construction.
• Familiarity with Istio, Linkerd, Envoy, or comparable service mesh technologies.
• Exposure to FinOps and cloud cost optimization at scale.
• Public speaking, open-source contributions, or published technical writing.
• Experience in regulated industries with strict compliance requirements.
