TL;DR
RF Engineering Intern (Antenna and Ground Station Hardware): Supporting the design, prototyping, characterization, and testing of RF hardware for phased-array satellite ground stations with an accent on antenna systems, active RF circuits, performance, reliability, and manufacturability. Focus on analyzing S-parameters and radiation patterns, troubleshooting integrated RF performance, and translating designs into machinable components.

Location: Torrance, California, United States. The role supports work subject to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including ITAR; candidates must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, protected individuals, or eligible to obtain the required authorizations.

Compensation: $36 per hour.

What you will do

  • Support the design and improvement of RF hardware for enhanced performance and reliability.
  • Fabricate and characterize prototypes for antennas, feeds, and active RF circuits.
  • Work with hardware and software engineers to test and troubleshoot integrated RF performance.
  • Provide technical support to regulatory and site operations colleagues.
  • Contribute to the development process from concept through production alongside electrical, RF, mechanical, manufacturing, and software engineers.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Basic knowledge of transmission line theory and the Smith chart.
  • Experience using Python or another programming language for data analysis.
  • At least one year of experience with antenna, RF, or electrical design, fabrication, and testing through lab work or university projects.
  • Must meet applicable ITAR eligibility requirements for work on U.S. Government-regulated space technology.

Nice to have

  • PCB design experience with tools such as Altium.
  • Experience translating analyzed designs into machinable components with mechanical and manufacturing engineers.
  • Familiarity with network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and other RF test equipment.
  • Laboratory experience analyzing antenna systems, including S-parameters, isolation, radiation patterns, and propagation effects.
  • Familiarity with 3D electromagnetic simulation tools such as CST, HFSS, ADS, FEKO, or Microwave Office.
