Senior Automotive Structures Design & Release Engineer

What you will do

• Lead structural design activities from pre-program through vehicle launch.
• Design, develop, and release upper-body sheet metal components, including roof panels, roof ditch, A/B/C/D pillars, quarter panels, and bodyside structures.
• Create and review 3-D CAD geometry, support stamping feasibility, and coordinate with suppliers and manufacturing teams.
• Support CAE and supplier testing, tooling kickoff, part manufacturing, layouts, prototype builds, and vehicle-level testing.
• Develop structures that meet roof crush, side impact, durability, stiffness, safety, NVH, cost, weight, and timing requirements.
• Manage engineering changes, resolve quality concerns, conduct CAE correlation reviews, and lead final engineering sign-off and production launch activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• At least 5 years of experience as a Structures Design & Release Engineer.
• Experience designing, developing, and releasing automotive sheet metal components from concept through production.
• Knowledge of automotive body structural performance requirements, including FMVSS, roof crush, side impact, durability, and stiffness.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.

Nice to have

• Working knowledge of CATIA V5/V6 and/or 3DX CAD.
• Experience with CAE correlation, reinforcement optimization, safety and attribute teams, and automotive body structure development.
• Experience with DMAIC, DFSS, 8D, fishbone, DOE, Failure Mode Avoidance, Boundary Diagrams, P-Diagrams, DFMEA, SCCAFs, and DVP&R.
• Experience reviewing and signing off component drawings, gauging practices, CAE models, and DV tests, including FMVSS requirements.
• Experience with threaded fastener joint design and testing, plus proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
