Director of Environmental, Health & Safety (Aerospace & Defense)

Location: Onsite in Denver, Colorado, United States. Applicants must be a U.S. Person under ITAR and U.S. export control requirements, including a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual.

Base salary: $165,000–$175,000 USD per year, excluding benefits and bonus or incentive compensation.

What you will do

• Lead enterprise-wide EH&S strategy and operations across multiple manufacturing sites.
• Own explosive safety programs for ordnance, rocket motors, propellants, initiators, and other energetic materials.
• Direct hazardous materials, environmental compliance, facility safety, fire protection, and emergency response programs.
• Partner with Manufacturing, Operations, and Engineering to integrate safety requirements into production and design processes.
• Manage regulatory permits, including air quality, stormwater NPDES, hazardous waste, and explosive permits.
• Build and develop a multi-site EH&S organization, establish KPIs, and present performance to executive leadership and the Board.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Safety Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Industrial Hygiene, or a related technical discipline.
• 15+ years of progressive EH&S experience, including at least 5 years in a Director-level or higher leadership role within defense, aerospace, or energetics manufacturing.
• Hands-on expertise with DoD explosive safety programs, including DoD 4145.26, ESQD analysis, quantity-distance requirements, and ordnance handling.
• Experience with hypergolic propellants, hazardous materials, environmental compliance, and high-consequence manufacturing operations.
• Knowledge of RCRA, CERCLA, the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, OSHA, EPA, ATF, BATFE, and applicable state regulations.
• Certified Safety Professional certification or an equivalent professional safety certification.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Certified Industrial Hygienist certification or experience as a DoD Explosive Safety Officer.
• Active U.S. security clearance or ability to obtain one.
• Experience with defense contractors, aerospace OEMs, OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, ATF explosive licenses, and explosive-rated facilities.
• Experience establishing EH&S programs during organizational scaling, site expansion, mergers, or acquisitions.
