Senior Backend Developer

Location: 100% remote within the United States

Salary: $100,000–$110,000 annually

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate foundational backend platforms and shared services used by multiple engineering teams.
• Develop request routing, traffic management, data fan-out, caching, asynchronous job execution, and durable event-processing capabilities.
• Design distributed systems for high traffic volumes, predictable latency, consistency, availability, and resilient failure handling.
• Lead multi-quarter platform initiatives, manage stakeholders, and make cross-team technical decisions.
• Improve internal developer experience through platform APIs, technical documentation, code reviews, design reviews, and onboarding.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to engineering culture.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• At least 6 years of professional backend or platform engineering experience; the position overview specifies 8+ years.
• Hands-on experience building and operating internal platforms or shared services for multiple engineering teams.
• Advanced proficiency in at least one backend language: Java, Go, Scala, Rust, or modern C++.
• Deep knowledge of high-throughput messaging, streaming, event-driven architectures, and data storage across relational, key-value, document, and search workloads.
• Applicants must be U.S. citizens, Green Card holders, EAD holders, or H-1B transfer candidates; new H-1B visa petitions cannot be sponsored.

Nice to have

• Experience operating Kubernetes-based platforms or contributing to internal developer-platform initiatives at scale.
• Open-source contributions to platform or infrastructure projects.
• Familiarity with control-plane and data-plane patterns, service mesh internals, or workflow-orchestration engines.
• Experience designing backward-compatible, versioned platform APIs.
• Public technical writing, conference talks, or community contributions on platform engineering.
