US Policy Team Member (AI Governance)

Location: On-site in Washington, DC; candidates must be eligible to work in the United States and based in Washington, DC or willing to relocate to DC.

Salary: $85,000–$195,000 per year, depending on experience and geography.

What you will do

• Engage extensively on Capitol Hill with policymakers from both parties to advance AI safety and governance policies.
• Help develop and implement strategies for effective AI governance.
• Track, analyze, and respond to developments in AI and emerging technology policy.
• Create informational materials and conduct briefings that explain complex AI policy issues to non-experts.
• Build partnerships with stakeholders across civil society, academia, industry, and government.
• Identify high-impact opportunities to reduce catastrophic risks from AI while advancing beneficial uses of emerging technologies.

Requirements

• Direct experience working for or advocating to federal legislators and government officials, with congressional experience particularly relevant.
• Eligibility to work in the United States and availability to work on-site in Washington, DC or relocate to DC.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to explain complex information to non-expert audiences.
• Strong interpersonal, research, planning, and self-direction skills.
• Ability to conduct efficient meetings with stakeholders across civil society, academia, industry, and government.

Nice to have

• Degree or equivalent experience in policy, law, or a technical field related to emerging technologies.
• Knowledge of AI capabilities and limitations.
• Advanced knowledge of policymaking processes and legislative procedure.
• Existing networks, DC policy partnerships, legislative strategy experience, or experience analyzing corporate AI lobbying.
