Public Policy Associate (AI Policy)

Location: Washington, D.C.; based in Washington, D.C. and in office four days a week, with occasional travel

Salary: $185,000–$200,000 annually, plus equity

What you will do

• Execute policy communications strategy through talking points, event backgrounders, rapid responses, and policy intelligence.
• Build relationships with congressional offices and committees, executive branch staff, trade associations, think tanks, and civil society organizations.
• Advocate directly by taking meetings, delivering company positions, and tracking bills and rulemakings under lobbying disclosure and ethics requirements.
• Run Hill briefings, roundtables, product demonstrations, receptions, dinners, and other D.C. events from planning through follow-up.
• Represent Perplexity in coalitions and trade association working groups, and partner with external organizations on convenings, research launches, and joint programming.
• Prepare leaders for D.C. engagements through briefing books, meeting preparation, and post-meeting recaps.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of professional experience.
• Experience on Capitol Hill in a personal office or committee is strongly preferred.
• External lobbying experience in government relations, a law firm, or an in-house company role; registered lobbying experience under the Lobbying Disclosure Act is strongly preferred.
• Established Washington network, strong writing skills, sound judgment, and end-to-end event execution ability.
• Curiosity about AI policy and the substance of Perplexity's products.
• Must be based in Washington, D.C. and work in the office four days per week; comfort with morning, daytime, and evening D.C. schedules is required.

Nice to have

• Hill experience in judiciary, commerce, intelligence, or AI-focused portfolios.
• Experience staffing a principal at a company, agency, or trade association.
• Existing relationships across Washington's AI and technology policy community.
