Software Engineering Manager (Payments)

Location: New York, New York, United States; San Francisco, California, United States — hybrid, with office attendance approximately 2–3 days per week. Remote work is available from approved US locations; San Francisco office expectations include the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas.

Cash compensation: $183,000–$200,000 per year in Denver and most remote locations; $222,000–$245,000 per year in San Francisco, Seattle, and New York.

What you will do

• Lead, empower, coach, recruit, and develop engineers across the Money Movement domain.
• Guide the expansion of payment rails across the US and internationally, including ACH, wires, real-time payments, checks, and partner-based international and stablecoin rails.
• Own reliable, compliant, efficient, and cost-effective end-to-end money movement across tier-1 systems, including on-call operations, SLOs, and error budgets.
• Lead the extraction of money movement from the monolith into a standalone Payments Service with clean API contracts and a rails-factory architecture.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, Data, Payment Operations, Accounting, Treasury, banks, and payment providers.
• Contribute hands-on through code review and coding when needed, while shaping long-term engineering strategy.

Requirements

• 8+ years of relevant hands-on programming experience.
• 3+ years of engineering management experience.
• Experience managing a Payments platform team.
• Experience building highly available, horizontally scalable systems and improving database resilience and blast-radius reduction.
• Experience growing talent, shipping cross-functional projects, and driving business growth.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline; higher education preferred.

• Experience navigating complex and ambiguous problem spaces.
• Awareness of AI capabilities relevant to engineering workflows, tooling, and decision-making.
