Principal Systems Engineer (Nuclear)

Location: Idaho Falls, Idaho, United States; office-based work required

Salary: $155,000–$190,000 per year

What you will do

• Design, implement, configure, test, troubleshoot, and document distributed control systems, digital safety systems, and plant performance monitoring systems.
• Lead engineering design, construction, installation, integration, and ongoing technical support for complex control and monitoring facilities.
• Manage design engineering teams, provide technical direction, review deliverables, approve documentation, and ensure projects meet technical, schedule, and cost requirements.
• Capture and refine system requirements, develop conceptual designs and prototypes, and create formal test documentation for SCADA computers, PLCs, system health, redundancy, and data acquisition.
• Integrate third-party and internally developed hardware and software, select equipment suppliers, and support purchase requisitions.
• Collaborate with customers through meetings, presentations, written communication, proposals, and technical issue resolution.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Person due to the nature of work performed at the site.
• At least 8 years of relevant experience and a bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field.
• Experience providing technical direction, leading technical work, and generating practical conceptual designs for complex systems.
• PLC and DCS programming and design experience with control systems and SCADA equipment.
• Experience interfacing with field devices, specifying DCS/PLC instrumentation, and troubleshooting data acquisition systems, networks, and AC/DC wiring.
• Strong technical documentation, oral communication, and written communication skills; ability to work an office schedule with occasional non-regular hours and travel under 10%.

Nice to have

• Equipment layout, panel design, CAD, Microsoft Visio, or AutoCAD experience.
• VLAN planning, network switch configuration, basic routing, and Microsoft Windows Server experience.
• Microsoft Visual Studio experience with C, C++, or C#.
• Windows system management, real-time application development, formal software and hardware integration testing, and system test procedure experience.
