TL;DR
Principal Engineer, System Design (Nuclear) (Natrium primary systems): Designing and delivering reactor systems responsible for heat transport, reactivity control, and fuel containment with an accent on system requirements, architecture, mechanical design, and multidisciplinary integration. Focus on developing first-of-a-kind nuclear technologies, preparing licensing and design documentation, and resolving complex design constraints across engineering disciplines.

Location: Bellevue, Washington, United States. The role is tied to Washington State and includes 0–10% travel. Relocation assistance is available.

Salary: $168,316–$252,475 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.

What you will do

  • Drive alignment across nuclear, thermal-hydraulic, mechanical, instrumentation and controls, and civil-structural engineering teams.
  • Design nuclear and industrial mechanical systems, including requirements, analyses, specifications, and system drawings.
  • Develop system architecture and design-basis documentation, including P&IDs and interface control documents.
  • Establish equipment design bases covering regulatory, functional, performance, and failure-mode criteria.
  • Manage supplier interfaces, technical deliverables, engineering changes, and design reviews.
  • Support technology development programs and licensing activities for reactor construction and operation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 15+ years of relevant experience; an advanced degree may partially substitute for experience depending on relevance.
  • Experience designing complex structures, integrating multiple disciplines, and working with mechanical pressure-vessel equipment.
  • Experience with configuration management and design-control tools for nuclear or similarly complex industrial applications.
  • Experience with nuclear reactors, high-temperature pressure vessels, or similar system design is highly desired.
  • Experience with ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001 quality standards; working knowledge of ASME BPVC Section III is highly desired.

Nice to have

  • Professional engineering licensure.
  • Experience developing technical documentation for system architecture.
  • Nuclear industry experience applicable to ANSI/ANS 3.1 qualification requirements.
