Lead Product Designer (AI for the Planet)

Location: Seattle, Washington, United States; expected to work from the Seattle offices

Base salary: $137,520–$206,289 per year, plus bonus plans.

hirify.global is a Seattle-based nonprofit AI research institute building foundational AI research and real-world products for conservation, climate, data, robotics, and other high-impact areas.

What you will do

• Own product design for Skylight and OlmoEarth, from problem framing and research through launch and iteration.
• Design complex, data-intensive web applications with tables, charts, filters, dashboards, monitoring, alerting, maps, layers, and spatial queries.
• Translate machine learning concepts, model configurations, training runs, evaluation results, and predictions into clear experiences for technical and non-technical users.
• Design agentic interfaces that show how answers are reached and support user trust in AI outputs.
• Build systems, patterns, components, and tooling that help designers and engineers work consistently and efficiently.
• Collaborate closely with product, engineering, partnerships, users, and ML researchers, including regular user visits and occasional international travel.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional product design experience focused on web applications and software products.
• Bachelor’s degree and a portfolio containing at least one software interface design project.
• Strong command of usability, user research, interaction design, information architecture, visual design, and design systems.
• Experience taking products end to end and shipping them to external users.
• Experience designing data-intensive applications and making complex information understandable.
• Modern AI tooling experience, including agentic workflows; familiarity with HTML, CSS, and TypeScript is appreciated.

Nice to have

• Experience at small or growth-stage companies and ownership of outcomes without heavy process scaffolding.
• Experience designing for non-technical users, non-English speakers, or low-bandwidth connections.
• Experience with geospatial interfaces, including maps, layers, time sliders, and spatial querying.
• Open-source contributions, side projects, writing, talks, or other evidence of self-directed learning.
• Willingness to travel internationally to meet users.
