TL;DR
Senior Associate Scientist, Oncology Central Cell Bank (Oncology): Managing procurement, expansion, cryopreservation, quality control, and distribution of mammalian cancer cell lines for oncology and immuno-oncology research with an accent on sterile cell culture and repository operations. Focus on troubleshooting transformed and immortalized human and murine cell lines, maintaining accurate inventory and documentation, and coordinating CRO milestones.

Location: On premise in San Diego, California, United States. Candidates must have permanent authorization to work in the United States; U.S. work visa sponsorship is not available. Relocation assistance may be available based on business needs and eligibility.

Annual base salary: $68,600–$114,300, plus eligibility for a 7.5% bonus target.

What you will do

  • Manage procurement, onboarding, expansion, cryopreservation, inventory, and distribution of mammalian cell lines.
  • Maintain transformed and immortalized human and murine cancer cell lines using sterile adherent and suspension cell culture techniques.
  • Execute quality control processes to maintain contamination-free cultures and accurate cell inventory records.
  • Maintain complete electronic laboratory notebook documentation for compliance audits and IND filing support.
  • Coordinate weekly updates, milestones, goals, and reagent requirements with management and contract research organizations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Immunology, Oncology, Molecular Biology, or a closely related discipline.
  • At least 3 years of relevant hands-on laboratory experience.
  • Current knowledge of oncology, immunology, immuno-oncology research, or drug discovery and development.
  • Advanced hands-on experience with sterile culture of transformed and immortalized human and murine cell lines, including adherent and suspension cultures.
  • Proficiency with scientific and office software, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and data analysis tools.
  • Strong prioritization, communication, presentation, and collaboration skills; willingness to work occasional after-hours and weekend shifts.

Nice to have

  • Experience in a centralized cell repository, cell banking core, or high-throughput cell processing facility.
  • Experience troubleshooting post-thaw viability, clumpy suspension cultures, and standardized dissociation protocols.
  • Familiarity with automated cell counters, liquid handling systems, or automated incubation platforms.
