Optical Transceiver Reliability and Qualification Engineer

Salary: $150,000–$230,000 per year base pay, with potential eligibility for bonuses and equity.

What you will do

• Develop and execute reliability and qualification plans for optical transceivers from prototype builds through mass production.
• Coordinate with manufacturing vendors to oversee testing, review results, and ensure quality requirements are met.
• Investigate failures during stress testing, identify root causes, and drive corrective actions with cross-functional engineering teams.
• Define reliability test methods, environmental stress screening protocols, and life-testing criteria using Telcordia and IEEE standards.
• Analyze test data, prepare qualification reports, and present findings to leadership and development teams.
• Work with customers on reliability requirements and debugging.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related field.
• 3–5 years of hands-on experience in reliability, quality, or test engineering for optical components or transceivers.
• Deep knowledge of optical transceiver architectures, active and passive optical components, photonic integrated circuits, and semiconductor laser reliability.
• Familiarity with Telcordia GR-468, GR-1221, IEEE 802.3, FIT calculations, and module qualification standards.
• Experience with temperature cycling, damp heat, biased life testing, and failure analysis tools including SEM, EDX, CSAM, and optical microscopy.
• Ability to manage external contract manufacturers or component suppliers and travel to an Asia-based contract manufacturing factory.
